The Demise of the C&NW's Partnership of The Overland Route.

In 1955 The Chicago & North Western was removed by the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific as the partner on the eastern end of the Overland Route. Several reasons have been given for the removal of the C&NW and its replacement by the Milwaukee Road. Some of the reasons put forth have been that the C&NW's track was bad due in part to the fact that the railroad was bankrupt, that there was a major dispute over revenue sharing in relation to the C&NW expenses such as servicing trains in Chicago and that their was just bad political blood between the C&NW and UP executives.
